"Rough" is the jewelry trade term for "uncut" gemstones. As you will see it is a good description of the exterior view of most minerals before a lapidary grinds and polishes them.
This exhibit presents a variety of "rough" which can be cut into gemstones. The prices quoted include the cutting process, so what you will receive is a custom-cut finished gem. It is the ultimate in customized jewelry and very personal.
You should be aware that the cutting process removes approximately 75% of the stone's original material depending on the original shape of the rough and the cut chosen. The material that is removed cannot be recovered as it is reduced to a fine powder. What remains after cutting-- is the gem that has remained locked inside the mineral rough for millions of years.
